Welcome to my game notes. For the most part(particularly on offense), these are possession-by-possession notes of all the things that happened on the court. It’s a way for me to learn as much as possible about what happened during the game because I would otherwise forget. Anything can be a note, no matter how small or complicated.
These are my personal notes. This is not meant to read as analysis or a piece. Some of the sentences may not have structure or perfect grammar. They are notes. My goal for this is to somewhat track the things that happen to know what to dig deeper into and have some kind of reference to it somewhere.
Clips will be accompanied for key plays I want to highlight.
1st
11:43 — Davion-Klay-Wiggins-Giannis-Bam. Davion chasing Ball around. There was a miscom on the switch with Wiggins vs Ant. Bam good read on the pass and gets the steal.
Giannis on Kuminga in the corner.
11:28 — Davion meeting Ball near the half court. Ball double PNR. Giannis 1st screen dropping. Bam 2nd screen dropping. Davion goes UNDER? Ball gets a wide open 3pt
11:03 — Ball running to the corner and gets an open shot
That’s an issue with not matching up properly. Miscomm with Giannis and Klay with both going to Rudy. Someone should’ve just been on Ball
10:42 — SLOB. Iverson cut for Ant. Wiggins is on him and recovers well to deflect the pass.
SLOB. Ball-Rudy PNR. Bam in drop. Davion dying on that screen. Klay stunts hard and digs in for a PF off of Jaden in the strong corner
SLOB. Ball running around. Davion trying to keep up and forced to switch on Rudy. Bam is on Ball. End up switching back.
Ant just pulls up standstill vs Wiggins with a hand in his face. That’s good enough defense. Tough shot making
10:10 — Klay chasing Jaden off ball. Trails. Jaden-Rudy PNR. Bam in drop. Klay just dies and he can’t get around that wall. Jaden gets a wide open PU 2pt
No stunting or help from Davion 1 pass away
9:47 — Quick Ball-Kuminga PNR in early offense before the defense is set. Giannis in a deep drop. Not sure what Klay was thinking. Maybe switch because he stayed with Kuminga. That miscom just meant another wide open PU 3pt
9:24 — Ant-Rudy PNR. Bam drop. Klay again struggling to get over screens badly. It’s a wide open PU 3pt. I’d want more effort from Bam here too
9:02 — Ball-Jaden PNR. Klay showed. But feels like he expected a switch. Jaden gets a slip and gets to the paint for a floater
Davion trailed from behind. Bam did step up from Rudy in the dunker but that didn’t really offer much contest. Giannis also did rotate to sink down.
The tag on Jaden needs to be earlier but I don’t know if everyone is on the same page schematically
8:40 — Jaden attacking quickly off the dribble vs Klay before the defense is set. He gets to the paint for another floater
That was poor defense from Klay. No physicality at all. Bam tried to contest but again couldn’t leave Rudy wide open at the dunker so the contest didn’t bother much. Giannis tries to swipe down but the effort was horrible
8:21 — Ant pushing pace. He’s attacking in early offense and goes at Klay 1v1. Just gets to his spot for a stepback mid
Giannis is also fronting Rudy. Wiggins was at the nail but didn’t really offer anything. The defense isn’t really setting at all
7:52 — Ant-Jaden PNR. Klay shows with Wiggins. 2 on the ball. Jaden slips to the paint. Bam is there early to meet him and causes a jumpball
I still don’t think everyone knows when to switch or not
7:25 — Ant in early offense again. Swings to Jaden for a 3pt but great recovery from Wiggins from behind to make him travel TOV
7:05 — Kuminga attacking Giannis 1v1 and it’s so easy. He went at him and got to the rim with ease
Defense wasn’t set. Davion telling to pick up Kuminga early but no one does. Giannis was already backpedalling and that gave him all the space he needed. That was lazy contest too. Bam tried to contest but didn’t offer much
6:42 — Off a steal in transition. Jaden kicks to Kuminga running the corners. Gets a clean look before Bam could closeout
ORB. Giannis LAZY box out vs Rudy. Wiggins was there too
No one matched with Ant. He gets a wide open corner 3pt
This was such a defensive breakdown. Miscom between Giannis and Wiggins
6:15 — Davion-Klay-Wiggins-Bobby-Bam. Wolves tried to push but Heat recover in transition. Klay recovers on Ant is and pressuring him. Davion showing strong help off of Ball 1 pass away
Not sure what Klay was thinking there. Is he funneling Ant to drive middle? No idea what the plan here was but it comes back to miscom
Davion still helping strongly and digs but a foul PF
Bam is overloading the side. Bobby sinks to take Rudy in the dunker
SLOB. Ant-Rudy corner PNR. Bam with a hard show.
Why did Bobby help on Rudy’s roll when that isn’t his role? That should’ve been Klay.
Klay struggled getting around a hammer screen. And it’s a wide open corner 3pt for Jaden

5:43 — Ball-Kuminga PNR. Davion went under. Bobby soft showing. Bobby recovers to Kuminga
Wiggins ball watching and got caught on the cross screen. Klay had to switch. He’s chasing Ant but then he gets caught on another screen. Ant gets a look in the paint but that was a good contest from Bam
Bam did a good job reacting to that. Klay peel switched to Rudy. Bobby also showing help on that shot off Kuminga
5:11 — Transition. Solid getting back back and picking up the ball. Bam with a deflection on the kick recovering

SLOB. Ayo PNR. Davion slow to react and dies on the screen. Bam in a deep drop. The roll almost gets behind Bam but he’s able to recover on the poor pass. Bobby again showing help
THJ just poor position on defense. Jaden PNR. Drawing THJ and Bobby on the show.
Davion rotates but he was ball watching and lost his man. Wiggins a fly contest on Ant. He was also sinking on Davion’s man. Davion also looked to rotate on Ant
ORB. Bam tried to box out but couldn’t secure it. Loose ball
BLOB. Wiggins chasing around Ant but struggling and also undisciplined on his closeouts again. Jumping on everything
4:28 — Ayo PNR. Davion draws an off foul TOV
4:06 — THJ is now on Ant for some reason. Ant with the side cleared. Bam overloads the side. Davion also on the same side showing strong help in gaps.
Davion’s man is again cutting but Davion doesn’t realise
Ant just goes ISO vs THJ on an island with no help coming. Gets to his spot for a PU 2pt
3:32 — Pelle-THJ-Niko-Bobby-Bam. Niko on Ayo. Doesn’t allow a deep drive in the paint. Pelle on Ant. Almost lost him off ball. Bobby in a drop on the handoff. Pelle recovers but then bad defense trying to beat him to the spot. Ant gets a wide open PU 3pt
ORB. Bam looking to box out but couldn’t. That’s THREE guys there that couldn’t get the board
Ends in a loose ball with Ayo getting a 3pt
2:56 — Pelle-THJ-Niko-Bobby-Giannis. Bobby undisciplined closeout. He’s taking the fake hard and flew by. That’s a wide open PU 2pt because of it
2:25 — Ayo PNR. THJ and Bobby show. No advantage.
Niko was looking to help as the low man then had to rotate to the corner on the swing. He did manage to get a contest
2:05 — Pelle on Ant ISO with no help. Does a good job staying on him on the drive and the sudden moves. Strips him for a TOV
1:49 — Niko getting beat in the backcourt pressing. But it was an unforced lost ball TOV
1:31 — Niko-THJ switch up top. Niko vs Ayo. Not great position. He got beat on the drive to the rim. Giannis also slow to react on the rotation. He got the layup before he even realised
1:04 — Ayo PNR. Niko-THJ kind of show and put 2 on the ball. The roll was going to be open but great read from THJ to be early in the passing lanes. Forced a steal TOV
0:50 — Pelle pressing Ball. Ball PNR. THJ hard show but the defense gets split. Pelle tries to recover and make it a tougher shot
Giannis also looked to rotate and contest. There was almost the putback open but good recognition from Niko to tip the ball
0:22 — Ayo vs THJ. PNR. Gets Niko on the switch. THJ looked to come help or double. Giannis is the low man and rotates too. Bobby took some time rotating and sinking but still managed to tip the rebound away
2nd
12:00 — Pelle pressing Ball full court. Gets screened early. Recovers and still be annoying to Ball. Niko-Bobby switch. Bobby on Jaden. Niko on Rudy.
Good overall defensive possession but this was also a whole bunch of offense with no purpose
11:16 — Niko picking up Kuminga in early offense and stays on the drive to contest. That was okay, forced the miss
10:53 — Pelle on Ball. PNR. Pelle-Bobby hard show. No one really tags Rudy lol. That should’ve been THJ. Niko does a good job defending Jaden off catch. Walls his drive off but then gets called for a PF
Giannis is also showing strong help early at the rim off of Kuminga

PNR. Pelle-Bobby. Pelle is fighting to recover. Goes back to a PNR. Pelle tried to go under and died on the screen. Bobby in drop. Pelle still does a good job recovering to contest Ball after his relocation to the corner
10:18 — Pelle really trying to stick with Ball. Double PNR. Dies on the first screen. Bobby is too high and Ball easily splits that and gets a drive. There was no one to help at the rim
Niko with a good reaction to rotate off Jaden in the corner on the drive but that did open up Jaden for a wide open 3pt. No one looked to contest
9:54 — Niko switches on Rudy. Giannis on Jaden. Just forces a quick PU 2pt
9:33 — Giannis backpedals on Kumigna driving. I think he should’ve met him further up. He gets deep into the paint and it’s a kick to Ball for 3pt. THJ was ball watching and was slow to realise that Ball moved. Late contest
9:12 — Why is THJ now on Ball deliberately
Bobby switches on Kuminga. Giannis on Rudy

PNR. Giannis in a VERY deep drop. THJ had NO effort getting over the screen. Ball gets a wide open pu 3pt. That’s legit a practice shot
8:38 — THJ still on Ball. PNR. Giannis in drop. THJ dying on the screen again. Pelle did stunt and looked to switch on the drive but PF

PNR. Giannis in a very deep drop again. THJ goes UNDER. Then it’s a rescreen and he goes over and he dies again. I don’t know what the thought process was there. Ball does travel here but it’s still unacceptable and he got space regardless for a wide open 3pt

8:06 — Pelle switches on Jaden. THJ on Ant. Giannis switches on Kuminga. Niko on Rudy. Pelle defends Jaden off the dribble. Stays on his drive but not that physical and he’s still able to get a clean shoot closer to the rim. That’s just being too small
7:31 — Pelle on Ant. THJ vs Kuminga in the post. Not that strong to hold his ground. Easily allows a baseline drive. Giannis looked to help. Bobby is just floating around, not really being active. Rudy lost the ball and it’s an unforced TOV
7:05 — Davion-Niko-Giannis-Bobby-Bam. Davion on Ant. PNR. Niko switches on Ant. PNR. Giannis switches on Ant. Davion showing strong help at the nail off of Kuminga in the corner. Basically ignoring him. Ant just goes ISO stepback 3pt vs Giannis
6:28 — Davion on Ant. PNR. Bam in drop. Davion goes over but trails behind. Gets put in jail. Bam stops Rudy’s roll. Davion looked to recover but that would’ve been a clean shot for Ant but then Bobby with a great help to get the block
ORB. It was just a loose ball after the block. Jaden tried to attack off the catch but Giannis reached and PF

ORB. That’s a missed boxout from Bobby. That was Kuminga in the corner crashing and he lost him
Ant just gets a quick C&S 3pt with Davion contesting
5:51 — Davion on Ant. Bam goes to blitz and double him. Deflected

PNR. Bam looks to be in drop but Niko is thinking switch, so they both go with the roll. And it’s a wide open PU 3pt. Started with miscommunication. Davion does a good job rotating to contest. Niko with a good board and box out
5:23 — Bobby gets matched with Kuminga. PNR. Davion on Kuminga. Bobby on Ant. Bobby is funneling him basline. Niko stays helping strong off the corner even when his man cuts but that is poor help. Ant still gets downhill easily and the contest is weak. Gets a shot at the rim
4:52 — Not a full clip. But Ant’s drive draws Bobby and Bam at the baseline. That opens up a kick to Kuminga. No shot there. But defense in rotation
Niko a bit out of position and was showing strong help off the strong side corner. That gives up a corner 3pt. Awful contest too
4:32 — Wiggins on Ayo. Empty PNR. Bam in drop. Wiggins going over but struggling to stay attached. Ayo snakes into a clean pull up. No contest from Bam. Wiggins with a late contest on the recovery
ORB. Bam just completely missed a box out. That was laziness.
Bobby closes out well on Kuminga. Absorbs his drive well and deflects the ball. Solid defense
Niko ball watching and he’s losing his man cutting along the baseline. Now he’s running into people and it’s a wide open 3pt given up because of it. Wiggins also ball watching and his man just cut right in front of him and he didn’t react
3:53 — Ant Empty PNR. Wiggins-Bobby. Hard show/blitz. Forcing a turnover. Bam was also ready to overload the side by helping off the corner. Davion has been the nail help often and he’s helping early
3:34 — Davion-Klay-Wiggins-Niko-Bam. PNR. Klay-Niko switch. Bam is helping off his man to be in the paint. Davion struggling to keep up with Ant off ball. He gets free coming off a screen for a quick C&S 2pt.
Davion started face guarding then just got out hustled. He also looked like he needed to help on the PNR. I don’t get the route he took either. There was no need to go that way
3:09 — Transition. Klay run and got back to alter Kuminga’s drive and forced a miss
No one else was really getting back to also be in position for the board so it’s a ORB
Wiggins with a good closeout on Ant. Davion recognised and rotated early to prevent a drive further by helping early. Niko with a good closeout and moved his feet well there. Moved back well and contested the shot and tipped the rebound. Great stuff
Also, Bam helping in gaps by digging hard.
This was a good defensive possession because it should’ve been a transition layup
2:42 — Early offense. Good getting back and defense reset. Davion perfect closeout on the corner
Ant PNR. Wiggins-Klay switch. Ant hunted Klay. ISO on an island. Niko is showing strong help at the elbow. Davion showing help off strong corner. Formed a mini wall. Klay forced Ant to pick up the dribble. Niko comes to double. Wiggins was splitting the difference.
Ant made the skip to Kuminga in the corner for 3pt. Wiggins tried to recover and contest. I don’t know why Niko committed this much AFTER Ant picked up the dribble
2:06 — Quick PNR. Bam in drop. Wiggins over. No advantage. Ayo attacks Klay off the dribble. Easy quick cross and that was a blow by. Poor defense. Too slow to react. Tried to recover and just fouled him on the drive
1:53 — Davion-Pelle-Wiggins-Giannis-Bam. Early offense off a steal. Defense recovered. Pelle stops the ball. Davion on Ball. Bam on Ant. PERFECT denial and faceguardin. Ball PNR. Giannis in deep drop. Davion just died. Open PU 3pt
1:31— Giannis vs Jaden. Just a bunch of dribbling. Not much help showing apart from Davion again 1 pass away at the elbow. Giannis contests the jumper in the paint
Also, if Davion is going to be that guy, he needs to be more active helping more aggressively
1:17 — Transition off a steal. Ant just gets a pick 6 to the rim
0:56 — Transition. AWFUL DEFENSE OFF A MAKE
No one is back. Everyone near the half court. All it took was Ayo just getting the pass and running a bit faster. Wiggins tried to recover and contest. Ayo did smoke the layup
0:35 — Pelle on Ball. He was too quick for him. Just one quick cross over and he blew by him to the rim. Poor defense by Pelle
Poor defense setting up behind. Davion was cross matched on Rudy. That should’ve been dealt with quicker by Bam or Giannis. They were busy dealing with that and that’s why there was no weakside help
0:13 — Wiggins on Ball. Another quick move and it was a burst that blew by him. He was recovering and that was an easy foul on the drive. Bam was also late to react as the help
3rd
12:00 — Davion-Klay-Wiggins-Giannis-Bam. Wiggins chasing Ant in Iverson action. Just Ant ISO vs Wiggins goes for a tough PU 2pt
Bam made sure to overload the side. Davion again, 1 pass away showing strong help. Giannis sinks to cover for Bam
ORB. Giannis poor decision to look to go away from Rudy. Missed the box out. Rudy just chucks up a shot
11:24 — Wiggins on Ant. Just a very easy blow by. That was awful defense.
Bam was the low man. He was waiting at the rim already. He did a great job contesting straight up and forced the miss. Klay good job sinking and taking Rudy.
Giannis showed a “stunt” in the strong corner but it’s Kuminga. He could’ve been more aggressive here. Poor rebounding and Bam/Wiggins couldn’t get it so OOB

Klay chasing Jaden around screens. Does recover but then is trailing going over the the on ball screen. Stays well with the drive and doesn’t allow anything
It just ends with a late clock chuck from Ball. Davion was looking to provide help too but was completely ignoring where Ball was for a second. He did still get back in time to contest the shot
10:47 — Jaden PNR. Bam in drop. Wiggins going over. Davion showing help 1 pass away. No advantage. Kicked to the corner. Klay closes out on Ant well. Bam is overloading the side. Giannis sinks to Rudy. Ant just settles for a PU 3pt but makes it

10:18 — Transition. Awful defense again because it’s off a damn make
Ball just went into an open PU 3pt. Bam was running back and couldn’t recover in time on that stop
9:58 — Defense got back to prevent early offense. Ant PNR. Giannis in drop. Wiggins over but struggling badly. It’s just a clean PU 3pt. Giannis doesn’t even have arm up. Wiggins needs to be better
9:25 — Davion on Ball. Ball PNR. Klay-Davion defending. Looking to show. Then switch. Klay on Ball. Another PNR. Now it’s a slip but both stayed with the ball. Poor miscomm.

Wiggins chasing Ant around Iverson screen. Recovers well and stops the drive. Almost another miscomm with Giannis and Bam on a switch. Davion draws an offensive foul on a screen
8:38 — Wiggins on Ant. Gets beat on the drive very easily and gets to the rim. Giannis good contest going straight up and forces a miss. He was helping off Kuminga in the corner. Wiggins was in poor position because there was a screen first and he didn’t realise

7:44 — Ball Jaden PNR. Pelle and Davion switch. Pelle on Ball ISO. Just dribbles and dances and nothing else. Gets nowhere on a drive kick then gets it back.
Flows into corner PNR. Giannis steps up but poor position. Not sure if he’s blitzing or switching. Ball turns the corner baseline. He draws Bam on the help and that leaves Rudy wide open on the cut. Bam reaches and fouls
Not sure what Wiggins is doing when he can see Rudy cutting on his own. I think this all started with poor defense from Giannis on the PNR
7:05 — Ant quick ISO drive vs Wiggins. He got beat. That forced Davion to step up as the low man. Giannis sinks to Jaden. Pelle takes the first pass on the kick. Giannis X out to Ball and contests the 3pt. Starts off with allowing a drive too easily
6:48 — Davion on Ant ISO. He tried to get a drive but stays in front well. Bam looked to double but then PF

Wiggins pressing Ant with the ball.
Ant PNR. Rejects it but Wiggins was sagging off too much and that’s all the space he needed for the PU 3pt. That’s just poor defense from Wiggins
5:53 — Davion-Pelle-Wiggins-Bobby-Bam. Ghost PNR. Davion and Pelle miscomm on the switch. Both went with Ayo. Bam switches on Ant. That’s just some tough shot making on that stepback 3pt. Pelle also looked to come double late
5:17 — Transition. Not getting back fully. Ant just outlet to Rudy rim running and no one was able to stop that. Pelle fouled
This is on Pelle or Portis. One of them should’ve been behind Rudy
5:03 — Pelle on Ant ISO. Tries to bother him with his hands. Ant gets to his spot for a PU 2pt. Draws a foul. Left on an island with the sides cleared and attacked early.
4:35 — Ant PNR. Wiggins caught on the screen badly. Bam looked to switch but he already had the drive. Ant gets to his spot again and it’s just tough. Nothing you can do on that pull up
Bobby also showing help from the strong side corner. The communication and defense after a screen has to be better
4:06 — Pelle on Ant ISO again. Just forcing a tough PU 3pt
3:13 — Pelle trailing after a screen. He never seems to get attached
THJ is the one pass away help and does nothing. Ayo PNR. Davion going under and still somehow dying on a screen badly. Bam in drop. Ayo gets a wide open 3pt with time. Again not much of a stunt from THJ
2:43 — Early offense. Ayo just attacks Pelle. That’s poor defense by not being ready. He draws a foul
2:28 — Pelle-THJ-Niko-Bobby-Giannis. Pelle pressing Ball. Really aggressive. THJ switches on Ball but miscomm. I don’t think Pelle wanted that. He’s now late on Ayo coming off a screen. Pelle finds himself recovering too late and Ayo gets a drive to the rim
2:01 — Off a TOV. Transition. Kuminga just gets to the rim with Giannis trailing
1:35 — THJ Bobby in PNR. At the level but not hard showing. No advantage. Ball swings to the corner for a 3pt. Niko needs to have the arm up
ORB. Bobby doesn’t box out Rudy. Lazy. Then a PF FTA
1:05 — Double PNR. Niko, THJ, Bobby. All switch. Bobby on Ayo. THJ on Rudy
Niko one pass away help. He’s showing strong at the nail. Poor closeout, his feet are just dancing in all directions. Gets beat on the drive. Forces help from THJ. No sink. Rudy gets a pass and a late foul. That’s on Pelle missing that rotation. Also Giannis could’ve easily kicked the mismatch out earlier

11:36 — Zone def? 3-2. Just letting Kuminga cut middle and get into a open shot. That’s on Bobby and Giannis
11:15— Transition. Kuminga drives to the rim. Bobby poor defense but he smoked the layup

10:26 — Empty PNR. Giannis and Niko switch. Niko also started on Rudy

PNR. THJ and Bobby. Bobby at the level. 2 on the ball. Rudy slips and rolls. Niko is late with the tag. Giannis also overhelps. That opens up a kick to the corner and def in rotation
Davion good job taking the first pass. THJ the 2nd rotation. Niko 3rd. Giannis 4th. Rotations were on point. Forced a 24s
9:43 — Transition. Ayo just sprints but defense gets back. Niko and Davion great job stopping that. Everyone able to recover after that
PNR. THJ and Bobby. Bobby in drop. THJ dying on a screen after under, over. Ball gets open pu 3pt
ORB. Bobby gets outworked by Rudy. Niko also struggled getting the tip.
Wide open 3pt on the kick out. No one near to closeout. WTF is just THJ doing
9:12 — I like this action from the Wolves. Guard comes off a screen into a little handoff action with the lead guard. Then it flows into PNR. They did that a few times
There’s no miscomm this time. THJ stays with his man
Ant PNR. Bobby and Davion. Hard blitz. 2 on the ball. Rudy gets the open roll. No tag but both Niko and Giannis rotate early in the paint

8:43 — Ant PNR. Bobby and Davion. Hard blitz. 2 on the ball again.
THJ tags Rudy and stays on him. Giannis rotates early to take Rudy. Bobby rotates to Kuminga but no real closeout for the 3pt. Giannis and Bobby need to communicate better with the switch
8:09 — Davion-THJ-Niko-Giannis-Bam. Ant PNR. Davion and THJ. THJ soft show and recover. Ant PNR. Davion and THJ. Switch. Just goes for a pu 3pt on an island Davion was showing help on the side and looked to double.
Niko is just in no mans land
7:42 — THJ picks up Ant. Tries to stop the drive but PF
