What to Expect at Simply Ballin for 2024-25 Season
Start here to find out all of content you'll see here & where to find it!
Welcome to Simply Ballin
So, with the NBA season starting in a week, it means it’s time to lock in when it comes to all of the content. Each season, I always look to set out some goals for the season based on what I expect myself to do in terms of how I go about covering both the Miami Heat and the league in general.
With me starting fresh on Substack for this year, I thought it would be a good idea to lay out what’s expected of the content and where you can all find it. A lot of it will be scattered around different platforms, especially with things like film breakdowns.
Overall, there will be two different main pieces of content that will have the biggest focus — The Culture Report and Around the Arc.
That’s my way of separating my Miami Heat coverage and everything else. I’m primarily a Heat guy, so the majority of the content will be centered around covering them, whether that’s through long-form articles here, on All U Can Heat, round-ups, or short-form film breakdowns. Probably 90% of my work will continue to be digging deeper into everything Heat. On the side, there will be some semi-regular discussions and a breakdown of the league in general.
The goal for both contents will be to focus on a weekly(bi-weekly for general league stuff) round-up and a video on YouTube(more on that below). That’s the long-form content on either Simply Ballin Substack or YouTube.
On top of the long-form content, there will be a lot of specific short-form breakdowns on Twitter through threads and videos. That will make up most of the actual Xs & Os analysis, going through individual plays, breaking down what happened in each game, as well as to supplementing some of the examples in the long-form content.
Let’s dive into the specific content.
The Culture Report
This is the main part of all Miami Heat Coverage and you can find that page in the navigation bar, which acts as the main page to compile everything that I do here, on Twitter or All U Can Heat. This is the place to go to!
The report on Substack is a round-up, which will be the place for you to get up to speed with everything that’s important, interesting, or fun. It will have three sections: What’s Been Heating Up, Main Topics, and The Heatle Things.
What’s Been Heating Up will be going through the week they just had, the games, and focusing more on the Xs & Os. The main ideas are more big-picture analysis. It’s looking at trends, stats, lineup data, and digging deeper into particular topics. And finally, The Heatle Things, which are all the extra tidbits that I found interesting, whether that’s a particular stat or a play.
When it comes to the main ideas, they can be in different forms and on different platforms. Some of the ideas will be written into the actual report. Some will be on All U Can Heat. And some, will be a bigger breakdown that will be a standalone piece on Substack. Wherever they are, everything will be compiled at the end of the report.
Equally as important, almost all of the individual game coverage will be in some form on Twitter here, under the highlights tab. This will be threads or videos going through the most important parts of the game, which could be a player’s big game, a certain scheme that worked or didn’t work a key reason they won or lost the game, or something very niche and specific. The videos would take it a step further by having it go through specific plays even more.
All of that will be compiled in the report and the YouTube video that will tell you everything that you need to know about what’s going on with the Heat.
Around the Arc
This will be similar to that, except it’s focusing on the league as a whole. These will be semi-regular thoughts and discussions about anything that is going around the league that I find interesting. It may be reactions to certain things, film breakdowns, game analysis, or what’s hot at the moment.
This isn’t going to be at the same volume, but the goal is to still keep up with the league and have some form of content coming out semi-regularly. Some past examples of the kind of content it’d be:
The focus of the content will be on the current games and news.
This will also take on the form of a round-up each week and a potential video on YouTube, as well as film breakdowns on Twitter.
And that’s pretty much it with the content and what to expect.
I am trying to grow both this Substack and my YouTube channel and it’s still figuring out how to do all of that. That is the goal for this season — to put out two weekly pieces of long-form content.
It’s learning to balance between being solely a Heat guy vs covering the league because I’m not entirely sure where to go with that. But it’s also constantly trying to make sure the Heat coverage is to the best standard whether it’s here or at All U Can Heat. And it’s still looking to improve with all of the basketball knowledge to give the best analysis.
It’s a process for me with all of this.
But whoever sees anything they like, whether you just read, share, or subscribe, the support is much appreciated. The content is all for anyone who is interested in what I have to say about the Heat, the league in general, or even just basketball. And hopefully, there will be some value there where you learn something.
